From EP through 12th grade, arts and inquiry are interwoven across the disciplines.

In addition to regular art classes, students showcase their creativity in the annual Art Fair, a school-wide exhibition celebrating original works across all grade levels. They may also participate in Backstage Art, an after-school program where students design and create sets, props, and visual elements that support school drama and musical productions.

We know that children love art because it is fun and provides them with a chance to showcase their self-expression. Art teaches important skills and develops young minds. Arts education in the Lausanne Lower School helps students develop skills for life. Including creative thinking, problem-solving, the exercise of individual responsibility, sociability and self-esteem.

  • EP art introduces students to the joy of creative expression through hands-on exploration of basic materials and tools. Through playful activities, students engage with foundational concepts like color, shape, line, and texture, while developing their fine motor skills and sensory awareness. Lessons are designed to foster artistic curiosity, encourage imagination, and build confidence in self-expression.
  • Junior Elementary (L1–L3) art introduces students to the core Elements of Art, laying the foundation for strong visual and creative expression. Through focused exploration of elements such as Line, Shape, Color, and Texture, students begin to develop essential skills in observation, design, and composition. Lessons are designed to build artistic confidence, encourage creative thinking, and support the development of fine motor skills, all while fostering an appreciation for the visual arts
  • Senior Elementary (L4–L5) art focuses on developing a deeper understanding of the Principles of Design, guiding students as they refine their creative and technical skills. Through the study of Balance, Contrast, Emphasis, Pattern, and Rhythm, students learn to apply design concepts thoughtfully and purposefully in their artwork. The course encourages greater independence, critical thinking, and the ability to connect artistic choices to broader themes and contexts. Projects are designed to challenge students with more complex compositions and to prepare them for the expectations of Middle School Art.

The Lausanne Middle School Art program focuses on fostering creative inquiry and exploration through interconnected global contexts. Through various units, students engage in art-making and reflection, discovering how art expresses personal beliefs, feelings, and connections with others. The course emphasizes the artistic process, self-expression, and community, culminating in a personal art project with clear intent and purpose.

High School (L9–L12) as a course fosters the individual as an artist, with student-led creative inquiry driving portfolio development, comparative studies, and exhibiting works. Students are supported through their introduction to these concepts before beginning to develop their own artworks. As students are mentored through exploration of their own artistic processes, students build towards creating and curating their own exhibition. This exhibition serves as a showcase of creative growth and artistic individuality,
